The first woman to win Rookie of the Year at the Indianapolis 500, Lyn St. James, will speak as part of the Bring Back Shop Class series during the annual Scottsdale auction week.

St. James?s presentation, titled ?Bring Back Shop Class: It?s Not About The Car!? will highlight the current state of education in the Industrial Arts and the need for schools to re-evaluate the value of teaching students basic automotive, plumbing, electrical and woodworking skills to develop better self-esteem and the self-reliance they may need throughout their lives, no matter which field of endeavor they choose to pursue. St. James is one of seven women who have competed in the Indianapolis 500 and supports the introduction of women into all types of auto racing through her non-profit Women in the Winners Circle Foundation.

Bring Back Shop Class is an initiative started by the Collectors Foundation to encourage and support experiences in the manual arts for high school-age youth. Through the program, the Collectors Foundation has donated money to schools across the country to upgrade shop facilities and fund automotive restoration projects. Featured speakers from earlier this year included Mike Schneider, president of McPherson College, and Matthew Crawford, author of Shop Class as Soulcraft: An Inquiry into the Value of Work.

St. James will speak January 17 at the Penske Racing Museum in Phoenix. For more on the Bring Back Shop Class series, visit CollectorsFoundation.org.
