Hey hey hey, which 'Blurred Lines' cover is best?

Music

Hey hey hey, it's the summer's hottest viral video/mashup/lip dub/cover song, Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines." You know the drill: Last summer, it was Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" that was covered by everyone from the Olympic swim team to Cookie Monster. (We rounded up the different versions in this post.)

IMAGE: Cosby, Kermit, Thicke

Getty Images; EPA

Bill Cosby, Kermit the Frog and Alan Thicke all star in versions of Thicke's son Robin's hit, "Blurred Lines."

This year, the hot song is a bit more controversial than Jepsen's blockbuster -- some critics dubbed Thicke's song "rapey" for such lyrics as "I know you want it ... but you're a good girl." (Thicke says those charges are hogwash, by the way.) And the video features topless women holding goats. (We don't know.)

The controversy hasn't stopped everyone with ears from throwing together a fresh take on the "Blurred" phenomenon, often featuring famous people. From presidents to Muppets to Robin Thicke's own actor dad, everybody's blurring the lines. Here are a few of our favorites. (Note: Language is sometimes explicit, images are sometimes risque.)

'Blurring Pains'
It was inevitable. Robin Thicke's song meets his dad Alan's iconic 1980s-90s family sitcom, "Growing Pains." Retro still rules.

'Cosby Show'
Speaking of nostalgia, another awesome mashup takes the opening credits from the 1980s "Cosby Show" and shows the Huxtable family dancing to Thicke's hit.

Bill Clinton
The former president's romantic reputation makes him a believable parody topic for the sexy song. And current President Barack Obama gets to steal the show with a soulful line of his own.

Kermit the Frog and the Muppets
Oh yes, Kermit the Frog is popular with the ladies -- just ask Miss Piggy. He leads the other Muppets in an entertaining romp through Thicke's tune. It's not easy being green, but Kermie nails it.

Vampire Weekend
There's no video, just audio, but all the better to highlight this goofy-fun cover by the rock band, who don't always remember Thicke's lyrics.

Mod Carousel
Thicke's video was criticized by some for featuring several lovely topless women stalking around while the men remain fully clothed. This risque version, by "boylesque" troupe Mod Carousel, reverses the genders for some equal-opportunity almost-nudity.

Jimmy Kimmel
The host of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" showed his own take on the video on his talk show. Let's just say Thicke, Pharrell and his crew of models are not so thrilled to have Kimmel and pal Guillermo trying to nudge their way into the action -- especially when Kimmel gets up close and personal with Thicke's face.

Super Mario Bros.
Mario, King Koopa and the whole 1980s video game crew get into a whole weird 8-bit area with this version. Thank you, Mario, but our princess is in another castle.

There are plenty of other versions out there -- including a country-western take and yes, even a kids' version (which substitutes G-rated lyrics like "I know you wanna ... join a Kids' World").

Lines getting too blurry for you? Vote in our poll and pick your favorite version.

Mobile connected devices drive CE industry; resurgence in auto, audio, TV segments, finds CEA forecast

Press release, July 25; Alex Wolfgram, DIGITIMES?[Thursday 25 July 2013]

Mobile connected devices, including smartphones and tablets, continue to drive consumer electronics (CE) industry sales, according to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). CEA also found there has been positive growth in segments within automotive technology, audio products and TV displays. Overall CE industry revenue will hold steady relative to 2012 levels, growing an estimated 0.2% in the US in 2013, said CEA, adding that its forecast for July 2013 also introduces sales data for new categories: fitness technology, desktop 3D printers and Bluetooth/airplay-enabled speakers.

"Despite uncertain economic conditions, 2013 CE industry revenue will remain consistent with 2012 levels," said CEA president and CEO Gary Shapiro. "Fueled by innovation, the CE industry is constantly noted for rapid evolvement, yet the industry has emerged as a consistent and steady force, influencing positive growth and job creation. While on-year sales remain even, we believe the future of the industry remains bright, particularly with the emergence of exciting new product categories like Ultra HD TVs, wearable electronics and 3D printers."

Sales of mobile connected devices, namely smartphones and tablets, continue to drive industry growth. These two devices alone will represent 32.2% of CE industry revenue in 2013, CEA believes. Smartphones are expected to maintain their position as the leading revenue driver for the industry in 2013, with unit shipments projected to reach 127 million during the year. Additionally, smartphone revenues are expected to surpass US$37.8 billion in 2013, a 14% increase from one year ago. Tablet computing will continue double-digit growth in 2013. Unit sales of tablets are projected to reach 87.1 million in 2013 and revenues expected to surpass US$27.3 billion.

"The success of tablets and smartphones underscores the importance of mobility and connectivity today," said Steve Koenig, CEA's director of industry analysis. "These trends are also generating opportunities in many other categories across the industry including audio, video and automotive technology."

Audio continues to see positive growth in 2013, with stronger than anticipated shipments during the first half of the year, added CEA. Home audio unit shipments are projected to increase by 11% to 11.4 million shipments. Major bright spots in audio are soundbars and Bluetooth/Airplay-enabled speakers. Soundbar shipments are projected to increase by 40% over 2012 to reach 2.8 million units, while portable connected speakers should generate US$302 million in total revenue in 2013 ? an increase of 35% on year.

CEA also found there is increasing demand by consumers to integrate their mobile devices into their vehicles. An increase in sales for in-vehicle electronics has led to overall sales revenues for factory-installed systems to reach US$9.2 billion in 2013. The integration of mobile devices is also helping in the aftermarket. Unit growth for head units equipped with Internet radio control or apps is projected to grow by double digits in 2012.

Sales of innovative digital displays continue to increase, despite a steady decline in average wholesale prices. TV sales remain influential to the industry's bottom line, with total TV sets and displays projected to reach US$19.3 billion in 2013, down 3% from 2012 (US$19.9 billion), the firm noted.

Choue re-elected as World Taekwondo Federation President

By Emily Goddard

WTF President Chungwon Choue was re-elected for a third time the day before the 2013 WTF World Taekwodo Championships startedJuly 15 - Chungwon Choue has been re-elected to serve a fourth four-year term as President of the World Taekwondo Federation at the organisation's general assembly in Puebla.

The 65-year-old South Korean held on to his seat at the top of the sport's world governing body unopposed after his only challenger Hong Moon-Jong, a member of South Korea's National Assembly, pulled out of the race for the position last week, despite controversially calling for a "single candidacy" ? that would have seen Choue to step aside to give him a free run at the Presidency ? earlier this year.

Although he ultimately ended up being the only Presidential candidate, Choue still asked the assembly to cast their votes rather than award him the position by default.

"I ask you to confirm me to remain in this position," Choue had said ahead of the election.

"Our organisation has grown too great to expect anything less."

Choue was first elected in 2004 when he replaced the controversial Kim Un-Yong after he was arrested on embezzlement and bribery charges in South Korea, which ultimately led to him being expelled from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Choue completed the year that Kim had left on his term and was re-elected in 2005 for a four-year mandate, and then another one in 2009.

Under Choue, taekwondo has grown to become a more global sport, evidenced in the retention of its place among the Olympic core sports after Rio 2016 having initially been believed to have been under serious threat.

Electronic protective vests and socks for scoring, along with instant video replays, helping eliminate the judging controversies which had overshadowed the tournament at Beijing in 2008, are just some of the innovations that have been adopted under Choue's leadership.

The scoring system was also changed ahead of the London 2012 Olympics, with fighters earning a maximum four points for a turning kick to the head, compared to a maximum two points for a kick to the head in Beijing.

The new scoring system left the competition wide open and led to some high-scoring bouts and come-from-behind victories as the eight gold medals in London were shared by eight different countries, making the sport one of the most universal on the Olympic programme.

Also elected as today's general assembly were 14 council members ? 11 of which were re-elections ? for four-year terms.

The three new members come from Mexico, Korea and Jordan.

The WTF general assembly took place as Chouewelcomed 1,500 athletes from 136 nations to the Mexican state to compete in the 2013 World Taekwondo Championships, which run until July 21.

"It is so fitting that we hold the first championships after the London Olympics here in Puebla to set a new standard for our sport," Choue told the 6,500 capacity crowd at the Centro Expositor of Puebla stadium.

"If you look around, you will see that Puebla is the new standard."

The championships will see three sessions take place each day and will be broadcast throughout 62 countries across the globe.

Sheila MacVicar latest hire for Al Jazeera

NEW YORK (AP) ? Sheila MacVicar, a longtime London-based correspondent for American television networks, is the latest hire at Al Jazeera America.

The news network that plans to launch next month and has been hiring personnel for offices in New York and Washington, and on Monday announced MacVicar's job. Other contributors include former CNN anchors Soledad O'Brien and Ali Velshi.

MacVicar started her career in Canada and worked for ABC, CNN and CBS News. She left CBS in 2010 for some consultancy work, following her husband to a job in Paris. Her husband transferred a year ago to Washington, giving MacVicar the opportunity to report on a country she has largely watched from a distance during her career.

Her reports will appear on "America Tonight," a five-day-a-week newsmagazine that is being modeled after "Nightline" during Ted Koppel's era.

The opportunity to work for a news organization she respects at a time of expansion proved intriguing, MacVicar said.

"The one thing we will not be reporting very much on is what the Kardashians are doing and that, I think, is very refreshing," MacVicar said. "I think there is a real market for this."

She said she was surprised moving to the United States at the extent of opinion instead of journalism on TV news. She said that "I like to get my hands dirty" digging up facts, so the new network seemed a good place for her.

MacVicar said she had read about, but had no firsthand knowledge of, problems involving Al Jazeera coverage of Egypt. Several Al Jazeera journalists there resigned last week, claiming the network had been biased in its coverage toward the Muslim Brotherhood.

"I wouldn't have signed my contract if I did not believe I would have editorial independence," she said. "If at any point somebody suggests that I should be reporting a certain story in a particular way because it would serve someone's interests, then I would be out the door. And not quietly."

Mentor?s new journey: North Bend?s Todd Reynolds ends fire career, readies for international church mission

Among the mementoes waiting to be packed, the coat stood out.

The heavy bunker jacket was special, signed by dozens of firefighters and volunteers, all wishing Todd Reynolds the best in his next adventure.

With two days until retirement, Reynolds, 56, Snoqualmie Fire Department?s assistant chief and training officer, was boxing up the memories from his second fire career.

It was April 2007 when Reynolds arrived in Snoqualmie from arid Pendleton, Ore. He had recently retired after 28 years as a fire captain with that city of 16,000 people. But Reynolds wasn?t quite ready for the retired life.

?I just wanted to do something a little different,? he said. When his church pastor?s family found him a more challenging job in a new place, right here in Snoqualmie, Reynolds pondered the big change.

?I don?t know if I have the horsepower for that job,? he wondered.

But his Pendleton chief encouraged him to apply, and Reynolds beat out the other applicant.

Snoqualmie was an adjustment at first.

In the Pacific Northwest, ?all this rain gets me down. But when it?s sunshiny out...!? he grins. He lives below Mount Si, and loves the encounters with bears, cougars and elk, the kind of wildlife he never saw in Pendleton??it doesn?t get better than that!?

Reynolds and his wife Kate have a grown son and three adopted daughters.

In August, he and Kate are going on a mission trip to the Ukraine through their Church of the Nazarene in Snoqualmie, to build missionary homes and work with an orphanage. The Ukraine has been an open field for missionaries for a while, and Reynolds is learning some of the language with help from mission leaders. He?s made one similar trip in his life, to Tijuana, Mexico.

The trip looks to be life-changing, and ?my wife and I are both really excited.?

Getting started

Reynolds chose his career as a 17-year-old. Leaving the Pendleton dentist?s office with his mother, he noticed the fire substation next door.

?I asked my mom, ?What do they do there?? She said they work one day, get two days off. I said, ?That?s what I want to do!??

Visiting his sister in Salem, Ore., Reynolds was one of the last applicants to get into the firefighting program at the local community college.

He got a ?sleeper? position at a fire station in Monmouth, Ore., and learned to be a firefighter, going on calls and taking classes, graduating in 1977. He got his first real job in Pendleton two years after applying and waiting on their list.

As assistant chief and trainer, Reynolds is a teacher, mentor, surrogate dad and confidante.

When a volunteer needs to chat, ?we?ll come in, close the door and talk about families, talk about ?stuff.? It?s kind of hard to put into words.?

He makes the schedule for the career firefighters, volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians, or EMTs.

Volunteers supplement the paid force, working a minimum of two nights every month. Some volunteers leave after a few years. Others stay for years; a number have been serving their Snoqualmie neighbors for a decade.

Training recruits

Volunteer firefighting is getting more challenging, with stringent training programs and time commitments. And yet Reynolds has managed to grow the program in Snoqualmie. He credits the people who are coming in: ?It helps when you have good material.?

Recruits in Snoqualmie often come from good jobs and high-tech careers.

?A lot of them are looking for something to do with their lives that gives back to the community, getting away from a desk and being committed.?

In Pendleton, ?you take a warm body, anybody who signs up. Here, it?s not that way. We pick and choose.?

Recruits go through an interview, testing on agility and knowledge, and must commit to 12 weeks of training and study, amounting to several days a week, to become an emergency medical technician volunteer. After that, they spend six months serving on the city?s medical aid car, two nights and 10 hours per week. After that, they?re evaluated, and can become volunteer firefighters, going through another series of training on nights and weekends. At the end, they are firefighters, and receive a modest stipend for their troubles. The department saves a small chunk of the pay for a Christmas bonus.

?We?re pretty picky about who we get in here,? says Reynolds. ?They?ve got to be able to do the job and make a commitment.?

Many new volunteers want to become professional firefighters.

?Everybody has a chance if they work hard at it,? says Reynolds. ?Once in a while, we get somebody, and we have to tell them, ?You might have to think about doing something else.? We do that with tact.?

Firefighting is a career where there are always more applicants than there are jobs?Reynolds estimates the ratio at 50 to one.

?You?ve got to be good and you?ve got to be at the right place at the right time,? just like he was. ?We tell our guys to apply everywhere?don?t just put your eggs in one basket,? he says. He expects them to be neat, clean, eager and ready for everything.

?I tell them, never let an officer roll a hose,? he said. ?If you see anybody wiping down a rig who?s over you in seniority, you?d better take that chamois away and start wiping it yourself. Show appreciation and eagerness in everything you do.?

The typical citizen won?t know who?s a volunteer and who?s a full-timer on the Snoqualmie fire force.

?It doesn?t say volunteer on their shirts,? says Reynolds. ?You wouldn?t know?and we?re proud of that.?

For firefighters, respect is a two-way street. New volunteers must earn it.

?We tell these guys, if you want respect from these guys, you?ve got to work hard and earn it. And they do.?

He?s proud of the lifesaving moments that his teammates have made, particularly the water rescues made by firefighters Darby Summers and Brian Busby in recent years.

A lieutenant will step into Reynold?s position on an interim basis.

As his signed coat shows, Reynolds have been given a warm send-off.

?The career guys and volunteers have been unbelievable,? he says.

He?ll miss the connections he?s made here.

?You have a tie to these guys?you know about their families, how the football game went, where their kids are going. All of a sudden, you?re not there anymore.?

?When they say, come on in and have coffee with us, that makes you feel good,? Reynolds said.

?

'Elementary' brings a stateside Sherlock to London

Sherlock Holmes is back on home turf in the second-season premiere of "Elementary" - and so, a bit uncomfortably, is star Jonny Lee Miller.

"It's a little bit surreal, to be honest with you," said the British actor, who plays a New York-based Sherlock in CBS' modern-day take on the great detective.

It was the U.S. setting that convinced him to do the show, which debuted last fall on the heels of both Robert Downey Jr.'s big-screen Holmes and the BBC's acclaimed series "Sherlock," starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

There were grumbles in the media about a Sherlock glut, and Miller says he felt some trepidation about taking on the iconic role.

"I turned it down because of that, initially," said Miller, who has played a San Francisco lawyer in the ABC TV series "Eli Stone" and a Scottish heroin addict in 1990s movie classic "Trainspotting."

"I wouldn't have done it here" in London, he said.

A season in, "Elementary" is a hit for CBS, and here Miller is, filming the start of season two this week at London locations including Paddington Station and Trafalgar Square.

Visiting London was natural for the show, which broke the usual Holmesian mold by casting Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan - rather than John - Watson. "Elementary"'s Sherlock is a tattooed recovering drug addict working as a consulting detective to the New York Police Department. Watson is the "sober companion" hired by Sherlock's wealthy father to stop him going off the rails.

The show also features other characters from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original detective stories, often with a twist, including possible love interest Irene Adler and the detective's nemesis, the mysterious Moriarty.

Miller says he's a "huge fan" of Cumberbatch's "Sherlock." The two men are friends, and have played the same character before. They were co-stars in director Danny Boyle's 2011 London stage production of "Frankenstein," alternating the roles of scientist Victor Frankenstein and his monster.

Once "Elementary" debuted last fall to mostly positive reviews and strong viewing figures, many of the doubters stopped comparing "Elementary" to other incarnations of the Holmes stories - and Miller did, too.

"I just have confidence in our differences in our show, and I have confidence in what I am doing now," he said. "It was a risk, but ... it was a confidence in the material, and in the basic idea. And the fact we were going over to America to do it.

"And at the end of the day, the world's big enough for various interpretations of a bit of fiction."

The show's second season will introduce other characters from the Holmes canon, including Scotland Yard Inspector Lestrade (Sean Pertwee), and Sherlock's brilliant older brother Mycroft, played by "The Amazing Spider-Man" actor Rhys Ifans.

Filming in Trafalgar Square this week provided the show's makers with an archetypal London scene - pigeons, tourists, Nelson's Column, red double-decker buses. The only thing amiss was the weather. It was warm. The sun shone. So much for those classic images of 221B Baker St. in the rain.

"When we started writing the script I just assumed that it would be the London I've seen in so many movies and shows before," "Elementary" creator and executive producer Robert Doherty said.

"But this is great. This is perfect. For our purposes and given the time of year that we're going to premiere, I'd rather have a big, beautiful, lush and sunny London for the American audience."

Season 2 of "Elementary" starts Sept. 26 on CBS.

Micronuclei may function as potential cancer biomarkers

Los Angeles, July 9 (IANS) Scientists have found that micronuclei (small extra nuclei) in cells are associated with specific cancer types, thereby paving the way to detect cancer, says a study.

Micronuclei are erratic, small extra nuclei, which contain fragments or whole chromosomes that were not incorporated into daughter cells after cell division.

A team of scientists at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies found that disrupted micronuclei, which can trigger massive DNA damage of chromosomes, might play an even more active role in carcinogenesis than previously thought, according to the study published in Cell July 3.

They also found that disrupted micronuclei can be an objective biomarker for the genetic instability common to many solid tumours, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), reports Science Daily.

"Our study shows that more than 60 percent of micronuclei undergo catastrophic dysfunction in solid tumours, such as NSCLC," says Martin Hetzer, professor at Salk's molecular and cell biology laboratory.

"We identified disrupted micronuclei in two major subtypes of human non-small cell lung cancer, which suggests that they could be a valuable tool for cancer diagnosis," said Hetzer, who is also holder of the Jesse and Caryl Phillips Foundation Chair.

Pakistan to host South Africa in the UAE from Oct 14 (? AP)

Karachi: Pakistan will play two Tests, five One-day Internationals and two T20s against South Africa in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting October 14, the PCB announced on Tuesday.

"We prefer to use UAE as a neutral venue because its weather conditions, environment suit us and there is a large expatriate community of South Asians in the region," a board official said.

"Plus playing in the UAE is also cost effective for us and also allows us to make some profits," he added.

The first Test will be played in Abu Dhabi from October 14-18 followed by the second from Oct 23-27 at Dubai.

Since militants' attack on the Sri Lankan team in 2009 in Lahore, no foreign team has visited Pakistan due to security concerns.

The limited-over matches will be played at Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

MSNBC host asks Eliot Spitzer: Should prostitution be legal? | The ...

Eliot Spitzer thinks he can regain the public?s trust. Just don?t ask him about legalizing prostitution.

During an appearance on MSBNC to promote his campaign for New York City?s comptroller?s office, host Michael Smerconish asked Spitzer if prostitution should be legalized.

?I?m not the right person [to ask],? Spitzer responded. ?I think that, no. When I was governor, I was proud of the fact ? and this is what caused attention ? that we passed much tougher human trafficking laws. And I think the problem is that prostitution is, in fact, it is integrally related with other parts of criminal activity that is fundamentally wrong, dangerous, violative, on any dimension.

?If people are saying, look, two people consensually having sex and there?s money,? he continued. ?When you define it that benignly, it sounds somewhat like smoking dope and people say, ah ha, decriminalize it. But it is integrally related with other aspects of criminal behavior.?

As New York?s Attorney General, Spitzer had cracked down on prostitution. His crack down on prostitution continued after he became governor, but in 2008 he was reportedly caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute in Washington. Spitzer resigned not long after.

The Duke of York becomes first royal to join Twitter under his own name

The 53-year-old Royal launched his membership today and simply tweeted: "Welcome to my Twitter account - AY."

Prince Andrew is the first Royal to have joined under his own name and tweets signed 'AY' are personally written by him, whereas others will be posted by his office.

"The Duke has long been an early and enthusiastic adopter of new technology," a spokesman for Andrew said.

"He was in fact the first member of the British Royal Family to tweet on the British Monarchy (account) when he visited Tech City. The logical next step was to tweet individually."

However, his account has already attracted controversial comments with one user writing: "yo how's Jeffrey Epstein?" referring to his relationship with an American billionaire who was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2008 for soliciting a minor for prostitution.

Prince Andrew also received nice messages from many Twitter users who welcomed him to the online community.

The Queen and members of her family are represented on Twitter by the account @BritishMonarchy, while @ClarenceHouse covers the Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

?English-language Chinese Blogs? are dead? Who?s Not Paying Attention.

Recently, in a period of comparing coverages of the Snowden saga in various blogs, I came across this frustrated admission from 1 of HH?s previous comment participants:

http://justrecently.wordpress.com/2013/07/05/the-china-related-blogosphere-a-deserted-playground/

?I?d happily participate in bridging the gap if this was still a sphere of blogs in the first place. But nothing on Twitter or?Sina Weibo?seems to last, most of it looks both chaotic and boring, and I doubt that I?ll ever become a microblogger in this life. Next life, something still hipper (and still more boring) will have replaced the microblogs. But I?m wondering: are there still active?English-language Chinese blogs??

You can read the comment section to find out that ?PekingDuck? sort of imploded recently.

But obviously, some folks have forgotten HH, or rather pretended that HH does exist.

Well. ?Here are some facts/stats from the net to dispute their narrow vision. ?(Some of you have seen these stats, which are not that great, but HH is ahead of some ?English-language Chinese blogs?, and more diverse in readership. ?And HH doesn?t sell any thing, like marketing tips, hobby movies that never get done, etc.) ?So thanks to all of our audience, HH is still alive and kicking.

Canada links up on secure U.S. military telecoms network

Canada is the first U.S. ally to link up on a new protected military communication network intended to meet increasing global demand on secure bandwidth.

Lockheed Martin, which introduced the satellite network called Advanced Extremely High Frequency for defense operations, said Canada has begun a test period with multiple terminals linked to the system.

Military communications are still seen to be at a high level despite the U.S. drawdown from Afghanistan and reduced responsibilities in Iraq and other defense-related operations, including the Persian Gulf and areas near Iran, analysts said.

The U.S. Air Force has been allowing select groups to use AEHF for testing as it fields the system, but the expansion means more users could soon have access. Britain and some NATO members are known to be the next candidates likely to join the network, security industry analysts said.

A single AEHF satellite provides greater total capacity than the entire five-satellite Milstar system it will replace. It is being touted as a joint service satellite communications system that will provide survivable, global, secure, protected and jam-resistant communications for high-priority military ground, sea and air assets for U.S. forces and international partners.

A U.S.-Canada team recently communicated successfully with the AEHF-1 satellite using a variant of the SMART-T terminal from a location near Ottawa, Canada, Lockheed Martin said.

AEHF-1 is said to be the first of six spacecraft to be launched as part of the AEHF program. The first was launched in 2010, the second in May 2012 and a third is due to be launched from Florida in September.

Each aircraft is said to have a design life of up to 14 years.

In the Canadian tests, users exchanged data with USAF's fourth Space Operations Squadron located at Schriever Air Force Base, Colo.

In later exercises, U.S. personnel supported Canadian forces as they tested multiple naval multi-band IP-variant terminals to exchange data over AEHF networks.

"AEHF's protected communication capabilities are operational and have wide appeal," Mark Calassa, vice president of Protected Communications at Lockheed Martin, said.

Calassa said the event was an integrated effort that spanned countries, armed services and product lines.

"It shows our employees are delivering a complex system that works well, enhances capability and improves allied missions," he said.

The network tests are likely to go on for several months before Canada moves toward initial operational capability.

Lockheed Martin is under contract to deliver six AEHF satellites and the mission control segment.

Miami Condos For Sale

For the last twenty consecutive months, the prices for condominiums in Miami and all across southeast Florida has risen dramatically. The real estate market surrounding Miami continues to strengthen in spite of the limited available inventory. As the demand continues to rise and supplies dwindle there are indicators that there is a significant appreciation in price.

Out of the tens of thousands of condominiums that were developed throughout the Miami area during the heyday of the boom years, less than 600 remain, and are available for sale. This is in direct response to many of the investors from Latin America that have sought to put their money in southeast Florida as a safe haven. As a response, local developers have reacted to this unexpected local condo recovery in the most predictable fashion ? they are working quickly to construct more condos.

Many of the projects that were stalled just five or six years ago, are part of the broad revival that has stimulated the local real estate market. As a result, the new condo towers are expected to create a construction boom along the eastern seaboard of southeast Florida.

It appears as though the Miami area is one of only a handful of surging mechanisms that is reviving the Miami condo real estate market. There are only a few communities around the country that have seen a rebound in the residential properties available for sale. Like the Miami area, their supply of condos is shrinking as the demand continually rises.

In early 2013, home prices nationally had significantly jumped much higher than the same quarter just a year previous. In comparison, the Miami area seems to fare much better than the rest of the country. Nationally, these numbers were up over 9%, while the Miami area experienced a rise over 10%.

Miami Condo Sales from Abroad

It appears as though buyers from foreign markets are scooping up the deals from developers. Because of this, many real estate owners hoping to liquidate their condos have capitalized on this unexpected demand.

Over the last 24 months, well over a dozen new condominium projects have been slated for construction in the Miami area. However, at this point it is not all that certain that every project will be built or completed. Local developers believe that the Miami area is riding the cusp of the next construction boom. It is their wish that this next boom will be more controlled than the last.

Today Miami real estate market as well as southeast Florida is looking healthier than ever. Although, developers are also recognizing the immediate need for developing high-end condos as well as retail shopping all along the coastline of southeast Florida.

There seems to be a change in the competitive real estate market happening in Miami in the surrounding area. As many more investors, retirees and individuals looking for second homes are coming to the Miami area. The future looks bright for Miami luxury condo market.

10 of the Best Apps in Apple's 5-Year-Old App Store

Apple's App Store is turning 5 years old on July 10. The marketplace, which was unveiled in 2008 by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, was designed to replace the Web-based programs that were initially running on iOS. And before long, the App Store became a massive hit that propelled Apple's iPhone and soon after, iPad, to the very top of the mobile landscape. The App Store's success didn't go unnoticed by Apple's competitors. Soon after the App Store's launch, the iPhone maker's chief competitor, Google, launched its own application marketplace. Now, Microsoft, BlackBerry, Samsung and countless other companies are offering application stores. There's even been an uptick in the number of so-called "unauthorized" application stores that boast applications that aren't usually available in traditional marketplaces. So, with Apple's App Store now turning five, it might be a good time to look back and see what has made the marketplace so special over the years?its apps. From games to productivity programs, the App Store has housed some of the best experiences any mobile user could desire. eWEEK examined those apps and plucked 10 from the massive App Store to highlight as the very best programs available in Apple's marketplace.

Djokovic, Murray set up 1 vs. 2 Wimbledon final

LONDON (AP) ? Novak Djokovic might win Wimbledon this year. Juan Martin del Potro will not.

No matter how it ends, both men will always have their spot in one of the most memorable matches in the storied history of the All England Club.

Slugging back and forth over a semifinal-record 4 hours, 43 minutes of backbreaking tennis Friday, top-seeded Djokovic emerged with a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-7 (6), 6-3 victory to move one win away from his seventh major title.

"One of the most epic matches I've played in my life," Djokovic said.

On Sunday, Djokovic will play second-seeded Andy Murray, who defeated No. 24 Jerzy Janowicz 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 to make his second straight Wimbledon final and move one win away from becoming the first British man in 77 years to capture his country's home tournament.

This will be their third meeting in the last four Grand Slam finals. Murray won at the U.S. Open last year and Djokovic won in Australia this year. On Murray's mind every bit as much, however, will be his 7-5, 7-5 win on Centre Court last year in the Olympic semifinals.

"I'll take that thought to my head when we play on Sunday," Murray said.

With skies starting to darken, the Murray match was interrupted for a half-hour while the roof was closed over Centre Court. Murray protested the delay, saying there was still sunlight left. He had other reasons, too. He had just rolled off five straight games to close out the third set after falling behind 4-1.

"It's a tough situation," Murray said. "There were probably 45 minutes of light left. I'd like to think this is an outdoor event and you try to play as much as you can outdoors. But I managed to regain focus. I took a shower, talked to the guys a little bit and got back to it."

The late finish came courtesy of what had been billed as the undercard, but turned into something much better. Del Potro and Djokovic played the longest semifinal in Wimbledon history. The match came up only five minutes short of the 2008 five-set final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal that's generally considered the greatest match played on Centre Court ? and perhaps anywhere.

Djokovic and del Potro spent the entire, sundrenched afternoon exchanging huge groundstrokes, long rallies and even a few laughs during their marathon, which covered five sets, 55 games, two tiebreakers and 368 points.

"I think this match is going to be memory for a few years," del Potro said. "We play for four hours and a half on a very high level. We didn't make too many errors. I don't know if the rest of the players can play like us today."

Eighth-seeded Del Potro, back in a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time since winning the 2009 U.S. Open, saved two match points in the fourth-set tiebreaker, then won the final four points to take it 8-6.

Shortly after, the match hit the 4-hour mark, guaranteeing it would surpass the 1989 match between Boris Becker and Ivan Lendl ? a 4-hour, 1-minute affair ? as the longest semifinal in Wimbledon's long history.

It's not the first time Djokovic has been involved in one of these. His 2012 Australian Open victory over Nadal lasted 5 hours, 53-minutes. Only a month ago, Nadal outlasted Djokovic at Roland Garros in a semifinal that went 4 hours, 37 minutes.

"When you feel good physically, when you know you're fit and you don't feel a huge fatigue, that gives you mental confidence, obviously," Djokovic said.

Sliding on the grass-turned-dirt behind the baseline, doing the occasional splits and, at one point, diving for a shot, then laying on the ground, face-down in despair, Djokovic put on a stellar show, filled with 80 winners but also lots of counterpunching, always making his 6-foot-6 opponent hit one more shot.

Despite the pressure of the match, both players took it for what it was: sports entertainment at its finest. Del Potro played to the crowd and also exchanged a few fun back-and-forths with his opponent. In the sixth game of the fourth set, the Argentine chased down a drop volley and flicked a forehand down the line. His momentum carried him to the other side of the court and the shot was called out.

Should he challenge?

"He asked me, What's going on?' I said, 'Listen, if I was you, I would challenge,'" Djokovic recounted. "He said, 'No, but you know it's out and don't waste my challenge.' I said, 'OK, you decide whatever you want. But truly, I'm not lying to you.'"

All this was done with smiles on their faces. Del Potro opted against the challenge but won the fourth set anyway, putting his 4-6 lifetime record in five-setters against Djokovic's mark of 18-7.

Djokovic's fitness played a big role in landing him the decisive break in the fifth set.

It came with del Potro serving behind 4-3. With the score 15-all, Djokovic hit a drop shot-lob combo to close out a breathtaking 22-shot rally. Del Potro dropped his hands onto his knees and clearly hadn't regained his wind on the next point, when he sliced an easy backhand into the net. Two points later, Djokovic had the break, and the 5-3 lead.

He saved a break point in the final game by hitting an off-balance drop shot winner off a del Potro serve return that clipped the net cord. Two points later, Djokovic had his 53rd career win on grass ? 24 more than del Potro.

"You can see I played my best tennis ever on grass court," del Potro said, "but was not enough to beat the No. 1 in the world. I was so close."

It was quite a taxing stay at Wimbledon for del Potro, who came into the semifinal with his left knee heavily taped, a victim of two nasty slips that sent him tumbling earlier in the tournament. The second fall came two days earlier, on the fifth point of his quarterfinal against David Ferrer. Del Potro said the trainer gave him a couple of "magic pills" ? anti-inflammatories ? and that kept him going in his straight-sets win over the No. 4 seed.

Against Djokovic, del Potro showed few signs of an aftereffect.

Tested throughout by a variety of Djokovic drop shots, del Potro got to most. More than once, the Argentine did his impression of a lanky golden retriever ? chasing the tennis ball from wide of the court on the forehand side to wide of the court on the backhand side. After going wide in the third set to hit one of his 48 winners, del Potro stood on the ledge separating the court from the stands, waiting for a high-5 from one of the fans at courtside.

The fans soaked in the del Potro experience, cheering on the underdog as he pushed the world's best player to the limit.

"They help me a lot for fight, to keep trying, keep going," del Potro said. "Of course I'm sad now, but in a couple of days, I will see how big the match was."

Midway through the fourth set, Del Potro lost his serve to fall behind 4-3, but broke right back, finishing the game with a big backhand winner, a guttural grunt and a fist pump.

They held serve until the tiebreaker, and when del Potro won that one, he looked like the del Potro of 2009, the man who broke the Federer-Nadal-Djokovic stranglehold on the majors by overcoming a 2-1 deficit against Federer in the 2009 final at Flushing Meadows to win the title.

If he stays healthy, he'll certainly be someone to contend with two months from now in New York.

But this week, it's Djokovic playing for a title after putting on one heck of a show.

"I know that I have been pushed to the limit today, as my opponent was also," Djokovic said. "It was one of the most thrilling matches that I have ever played, especially here in Wimbledon."
