Powerball prize-sharing joke hits 1M shares on Facebook

2 hrs.

A joke?Facebook post by a man claiming to have a winning Powerball lottery ticket has been shared 1 million times just in the 24 hours since it was posted.

Nolan Daniels?posted an image of himself on the social network?holding a Powerball ticket?Thursday evening. He claimed it was a winning ticket and that if his friends shared the photo, he would give a million dollars to one of them at random. As the post was made public (and remains so as of this writing), it went viral, spreading from Facebook to blogs and various websites.

Even a cursory examination of the photo shows it to be the crudest of manipulations, with the telltale signs of simple copying and pasting to make the numbers appear to be a winning permutation. And those familiar with the rules may also have noticed that the numbers are not printed in numerical order, as they would be on a real ticket.

Despite the ruse being?glaringly obvious, the photo???and some folks'?hopes for a cut of the dough???has spread like wildfire. NBC News has contacted Daniels for comment, and will update this post if we hear back from him.

Curious about the real Powerball winners? You can read about them and watch a video of their introduction here.

Devin Coldewey is a contributing writer for NBC?News Digital. His personal website is?coldewey.cc.

What Causes Poor Eyesight Among Seniors? - Retirement Homes

The loss of eyesight is a common consequence of growing older, and it?s not just ailments such as Glaucoma and cataracts causing difficulty for seniors. One group of researchers says they may have identified the cause of another common eye-related problem: difficulty reading fine print.

As reported in U.S. News and World Report, scientists from the University of Leicester in England conducted experiments with young adults in their 20s and seniors aged 65 and above, and found that when lines of text were digitally altered, seniors had difficulty reading the words when the lines were well defined, but they were able to read the text when it was blurred.

The results, published as an article in the journal Psychology and Aging, the researchers said the results demonstrate seniors and younger people read text in different ways.

?The findings showed that the difficulty older readers often experience is likely to be related to a progressive decline in visual sensitivity, particularly for visual detail, due to optical changes and changes in neural transmission even in individuals with apparently normal vision,? according to Kevin Paterson , one of the study?s authors.

How is your eyesight? Have you found your vision has declined with age? Tell us about it in the comment section below.

Jennifer Lee to direct Disney's animated "Frozen"

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Jennifer Lee has been chosen to co-direct, along with "Tarzan's" Chris Buck, Disney's upcoming animated 3D film "Frozen," the company said Thursday.

Lee was a co-writer on the recent animated film "Wreck-It Ralph." She also contributed to the "Frozen" screenplay.

The toon, to be voiced by Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, is about an optimist who embarks on an epic journey with a mountain man and his reindeer to stop her sister, a Snow Queen who's put an icy spell on her kingdom.

Lee's other credits include the screen adaptation of John Steinbeck's "The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights," which is being produced by Troika Pictures.

Peter Del Vecho, the producer of "Frozen," said in a statement that Lee has "a real connection to the film and creates dynamic and relatable characters. Her sense of comedy, adventure and story structure paired with Chris Buck's vast experience and incredible instincts create an ideal situation for this film."

"Frozen" is slated for a November 27, 2013 release. The film will feature original music from "The Book of Mormon" composer Robert Lopez and "In Transit" composer Kristen Anderson-Lopez.

Tampa FL Quick And Easy Ways To Increase The Worth Of Your Home

Your home maintenance will involve home improvements which can be tackled by effectively determining the time and money you'll need for a project. There are many different kinds of regulations, design elements and tools that you need to know. Here's some tips to be sure your home improvement project is done safely and correctly.

It is very important that you install an exhaust fan in certain areas of your home, including bathrooms, laundry rooms, and cooking surfaces. Proper venting of moist air lowers the humidity of the room, reducing the chance of developing a mold or mildew problem. Also, you can halt condensation that can collect inside walls, thus preventing rot.

Let your neighbors know ahead of time about any future home improvements you decide to make. If it involves a major renovation project, it could entail having part of the street blocked off from traffic in order to move equipment around and make deliveries. This will be appreciated by your neighbors, and they might even offer to let you borrow some tools.

Bugs can wreak havoc on your home, and cracks in the wall or gaps in the window can cause bills to skyrocket. Make sure you seal all those little cracks and gaps in the house to save money and to avoid infestation. Add caulk to your floor boards, on windows or doors. When caulk dries, it will help prevent bugs from entering and air from escaping.

You need to improve the outside appearance of your house. Try to improve your home's exterior by moving the lawn and trimming your hedges. Add a couple of strategically placed shrubs. Even just sweeping your walkways make a big difference. Have the roof and exterior of the home power washed. Clean your windows until they shine. All these things can leave a lasting impression on those who come to view your home.

Do you like being outdoors, but dislike bugs? The addition of a screened porch can be the perfect solution. It will give you a nice place to read, eat or spend quality time with your loved ones without being bothered by pests. Place a ceiling fan on the ceiling for even more comfort.

Planting a tree for tomorrow is a common phrase most people have heard. However, many people do not realize the benefit of planting trees in your yard. For each tree that grows to its full size, you can add a thousand dollars to the value of your property.

If you are purchasing a house, make sure to enlist a professional home inspector. This will give you an objective evaluation and allow you to see things from different perspective. Enlisting a professional inspector who does not have a stake in the sale is a smart method of keeping things honest.

Installing a property lined fence can have many beneficial effects to your home. This provides your family with a level of protection from stray animals. A fence can also keep a dog from leaving the yard. A fence can also be made that makes a home look improved.

You can make your home safer and more valuable by installing some aluminum shutters or some roller shutters. They can be especially valuable if your home is located in an area prone to high winds or hurricanes, or if you are in need of extra security.

You will save a ton of money by living in your house while you complete home improvements, so try to stick to one room at a time. This will make it easier to live in your home, until it's the bathroom! If you don't have more than one bathroom, you might need to stay with friends or family.

By using the tips in this article you can avoid costly mistakes in your home improvement project. Now you're ready to swing that hammer confidently in your very own home improvement projects.

Anyone up for partnering(1x1) on a REVOLUTION roleplay!?

So, i'm a HUGE fan of the new show REVOLUTION on NBC, and wouldn't mind doing a RP about it! I'd wanna RP as Dani(with a different face claim probably), and thought it would be interesting to RP with someone who would play as a young militiaman who was somehow closer to Monroe than most(you'd have to come up with a reasonable reason for that of course! xD). I'd also RP the roles around Dani as NPC and you could do the same for the Militia roles.

If interested please feel free to

message me!!For the record though, i don't like RPing in PM's or anywhere else other than on this site. ^^ Also, please be willing to write hefty posts with proper English, and decent spelling. Frequent replies is another must! I know everyone on here says they want their RPs to last but then they let them die. I'm not like that at all though, i like to finish stories i start vs. ending them out of the blue after only a few weeks. So not to be mean, but If you're swamped with school, work, life, or other RPs, please pass this thread by. While i totally understand stuff coming up here and there, i don't want those to become a frequent excuse for slacking off in posts. I know people have lives, and i myself am in school, but i can manage to find time outside of my school work to do things on a daily basis and really want someone else who can do that....ya know!?? ^^

Thanks for reading!!!!

We should all be viewed as beautiful, but in different ways.
No one type should rule, and no one type should be ridiculed.
We should all be allowed to feel pretty, with no shame or self-pitty.

By following a set of principles, scientists can produce protein molecules that previously did not exist in nature

By following certain rules, scientists can prepare architectural plans for building ideal protein molecules not found in the real world. Based on these computer renditions, previously non-existent proteins can be produced from scratch in the lab. The principles to make this happen appear this month in Nature magazine.

The lead authors are Dr. Nobuyasu Koga and Dr. Rie Tatsumi-Koga, a husband-and-wife scientific team in Dr. David Baker's lab at the University of Washington Protein Design Institute.

The project benefited from hundreds of thousands of computer enthusiasts around the world who adopted Rosetta@home for simulating designed proteins.

Protein molecules start as an unstable, high energy chain of amino acids. This chain then begins folding into various shapes to try to achieve a stable, low energy state. The end result is its distinctive molecular structure. Rosetta@home volunteers helped the project team to plot this energy landscape from protein structure predictions.

"The structural options become fewer as the interactions that stabilize the protein selectively favor one folding pattern over others," explained Koga.

"This decline in conformation options to eventually achieve a unique, ordered structure is called a funnel-shaped energy landscape," he said, drawing a tornado-like figure on a whiteboard. The researchers came up with guidelines for robustly generating this type of energy landscape.

According to Tatsumi-Koga, these rules require the interactions among the residues in the protein's amino acid chain to consistently favor the same folded conformation in forming its molecular shape. This is made possible, for example, by defining whether a specific unit will form a "right-handed" orientation or its mirror image, and disfavor others.

The researchers, she said, synthesized the proteins they had originally designed and tested "in silico" (on the computer) and physically characterized them through "in vitro" (laboratory test tube) experiments.

They also compared the molecular structures of the computer models with these laboratory-derived proteins to see how well they matched.

Koga stressed that the project looked strictly at protein structure. He smiled as he said his group was striving toward a "platonic ideal," a reference to Plato's theory of perfect forms.

In our imperfect material world, proteins are not always optimized for their stability, but can be beset by bulges, kinks, strains, and improperly buried parts. Many diseases arise from protein malformations.

During this project, the researchers achieved a library of five ideal structures, but since filing their report have added several more.

To make them accessible to other scientists, the designs have been deposited in the Research Collaboratory for Structural Bioinformatics and the lab analysis of their chemical structure was put in the Biological Magnetic Resonance Database.

The team was not attempting to create specific new proteins that could carry out particular activities.

However, their design principles and methods, according to their report, should allow the ready creation of a wide range of robust, stable, building blocks for the next generation of engineered functional proteins.

Such proteins would be custom-made for the task, instead of repurposed from proteins with unrelated functions. The hope is that engineered proteins will be useful for drug and vaccine development, especially for formidable viruses like HIV or rapidly changing ones, like the flu.

Proteins designed to exact specifications might also prove therapeutically useful in cleaving mutated genes, and for speeding up chemical reactions important in industry and environmental reclamation.

###

The Institute for Protein Design, directed by David Baker, was recently established at the UW and aims to design proteins to address 21st century challenges in medicine, energy and technology.

The project, Principles for designing ideal protein structures, was funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the U.S. Department of Energy, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, NIH grant U54 GMO94597. Koga also received a postdoctoral research fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.

The researchers declared no competing financial interests.

London and Scotland first time buyer figures at 3 year high

by Hannah 28. November 2012 10:52

House on top of a percentage signAccording to the Council of Mortgage Lenders, the first time buyer figures in Scotland and London are currently at a 3 year high. Figures showed that around 10,000 first time buyers in London took out a mortgage in the third quarter of 2012. The figures also showed an increase of 8% from the second to the third quarter of the year.

It?s been estimated that the average first time buyer is taking out a mortgage that is 3.5 times their annual income. It?s also estimated that first time buyers in the London area tend to put down a bigger deposit too.

In Scotland the figures are slightly lower. It?s estimated that first time buyers borrowed around 2.83 times their annual income. The house prices in Scotland are currently much cheaper than they are in the rest of the UK.

Experts are saying that this boost in first time buyers in London and Scotland is encouraging. However, the rest of the housing market appears to still be a little flat.

There?s a new MI home scheme being introduced throughout the country which aims to give consumers higher loan to value mortgages. This only applies to new build homes, but it could help to get first time buyers onto the market.

Despite the increase in London?s first time buyers, there are still many challenges that the city faces. The Mayor of London is responsible for investment and housing strategy in the city.

These days it can be quite difficult to get onto the housing market when you?re a first time buyer. This is especially true if you have bad debt. If you?re worried about the effect your credit report will have on your mortgage applications then financial management plans can help. Contact us today for a no obligation quote on our financial management plan service.

With 47 percent of the popular vote, Mitt Romney may become the president of nothing more than Ironystan. Yes, the final general-election tally is trickling in and, as fate would have it, Romney's total might look more like that mythical number after all. Well, according to David Wasserman of the Cook Political report, it's more like 47.49 and dropping, which, of course rounds down to 47 ? the same percentage of Americans?he said were moochers and takers in a video?that was one of the nails in the coffin of his presidential campaign.

Cops find gun, knives stashed in DC Metro station

By Jackie Bensen, NBCWashington

WASHINGTON -- Police found several weapons stashed in a Metro station as they investigated a fatal stabbing.

According to court documents, crime scene investigators found a gun behind a locker on the north end of the Woodley Park platform, a bloody knife on top of a pylon and another knife hidden in a phone booth at the other end. All the items are believed to have been placed in the seconds after 18-year-old Olijawon Griffin was stabbed to death on the mezzanine platform early on Nov. 17.

The Woodley Park Metro station exits on Connecticut Avenue, leading to the National Zoo.

Read more news on NBCWashington.com

Prosecutors describe the murder as the result of a chain of robbery and violence that began as what one witness described as a setup to steal Griffin's expensive Helly Hansen jacket, which can retail for $300.

The nine suspects arrested ranged in age from 15 to 17. Only one was originally charged as an adult, but juvenile charges were dropped against four defendants, all 17, on Monday and they were charged as adults with armed robbery.

Google's Play Store website now links reviews with your Google+ account

YouTube asks nicely if you would like to post comments using your Google+ name, and now a similar change has quietly made it to the Play Store. When we say similar, we mean in this case, you're forced into revealing your true identity from now on -- at least when you're accessing Google's virtual marketplace from a browser. We'd guess that linking ratings and reviews to your account ties in with the enhanced Google+ integration recently added to the app, and will serve to provide better download recommendations based on your profile and friends. The requirement, however, has not yet been implemented in the app, so if you've been meaning to leave a few damning reviews, this loophole is your last chance to do so anonymously.

How will you get bank loan or even cash loan?

Rating Score :

A?proval : 98 %.

Get Cash in : 60 Minute.

Benefits : No faxing , No credit check , Real fast money ... and more !

According to your condition of house, employment status and also income, you are able to be entitled to that loan as high as $1500, however some creditors may lend no more than $500. You will have chance to observe how much you be entitled to before accepting any loan agreement.

There is an essential legitimate big difference from the present as well as a bank loan. A really generous family member or perhaps friend could give you $5000 for vehicle repairs, for example. In case there isn't any hope of payment, the cash can be viewed a gift. The provider could not file suit for payment after within a city match. However when the credit provider designates the cash like a loan as well as the consumer pays back again a buck, the money can be viewed a legitimate loan as well as the loan company may demand repayment anytime. Penn State's O'Brien, who says he's staying, named Big Ten coach of the year

Bill O'Brien's football coach at Brown University predicted this in January.

"In time, and I know it will take time because there are a lot of wounds to heal, I truly believe [Penn State] people will say, 'Can you believe how lucky we were to get Billy O'Brien?' " Mickey Kwiatkowski said the day O'Brien was hired.

Less than 10 months later, Big Ten coaches and media voters made O'Brien the unanimous choice as the conference's coach of the year. O'Brien, who guided Penn State to an 8-4 record following a tumultuous offseason, was selected over Ohio State's Urban Meyer, who led the Buckeyes to a 12-0 record.

In addition, O'Brien's agent told ESPN on Tuesday that his client will return for a second season. O'Brien, scheduled to resume recruiting Wednesday, said the same in an interview with an Atlanta radio station.

"I plan on being the head football coach at Penn State," O'Brien told 790 The Zone. "That's my plan and that's what I intend to do."

Also Tuesday, Penn State defensive end Deion Barnes was named the Big Ten freshman of the year. Barnes, a redshirt freshman from Philadelphia, led the team in tackles for loss (10) and sacks (six). He is the first Penn State player to win the award since Curtis Enis in 1995.

Barnes joined linebacker Mike Mauti and receiver Allen Robinson in winning Big Ten player-of-the-year awards. Six Lions made the all-conference first team.

O'Brien, 43, won both the Dave McClain (media vote) and the Hayes-Schembechler (coaches) awards. He became the seventh first-year coach to win the McClain Award, established in 1972. Joe Paterno won it three times. The Hayes-Schembechler Award began last year, when the conference created two divisions.

O'Brien, the first Penn State coach to win eight games in his first season, called the awards "humbling" in an appearance on the Big Ten Network. His players have been effusive in their praise all season.

"That was the perfect hire," cornerback Stephon Morris said. "No one could have done the job coach O'Brien did."

"What else do you want from a guy who's had to inherit this situation?" Mauti added. "In my opinion, that's the coach of the year right there."

Barnes started the opener in place of the injured Pete Massaro and quickly became a playmaker. He tied Mauti for the team lead in forced fumbles (three) and made a season-high six tackles against Nebraska.

"I'm not just here to be good," Barnes said. "I'm here to be great. I want to be where I can't be blocked."

McGLOIN A FINALIST FOR WALK-ON AWARD: Quarterback Matt McGloin is a finalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to the nation's top player who began his career as a walk-on. Michigan safety Jordan Kovacs and San Jose State offensive lineman David Quessenberry also are finalists.

The award, named in honor of the late Brandon Burlsworth, will be presented Monday in Springdale, Ark.

Garrison claims second consecutive singles racquetball trophy ...

Robert Moore, 795th MP Bn., right, hits the ball back to his Garrison Command opponent, Anthony Powers, on Court 3 in the championship round of the Commanders Cup Singles Racquetball Tournament Nov. 8 at DFC.

Garrison Command successfully defended its title as the post?s reigning racquetball champions, earning their second consecutive Commander?s Cup Singles Racquetball Tournament trophy Nov. 8 at Davidson Fitness Center.
The Garrison team of Anthony Powers, Dave Faulkner and Renard Ellis overwhelmed the competition from their first game in the second round of the four-day tourney (they earned a bye in Round 1), allowing no more than nine points from any opponent in games played to 15.

?It?s just looking for different styles, trying to play your game and not deviating too much from your game plan,? Powers said. ?There are always new players coming on, so you never know what to expect when you walk in there. You have to give your best and scope out the competition as you get close to the final to see what their strengths and weaknesses are, just like they are (doing to) you.?

Image

From left, Garrison Command player Renard Ellis is congratulated by Danny Howell, FMWR sports specialist, as his teammates Anthony Powers and Dave Faulkner look on.

The 795th Military Police Battalion team of Robert Moore, Aaron Poulin and Mike Lynch were the tournament runners-up, fighting their way past the 169th Engineer Battalion, the two-time runners-up Dental Activity team and the 35th Engineer Battalion to advance to the final.

?We took second ? that?s not too bad,? Poulin said to his teammates as the tournament drew to a close.

In the championship round, Ellis was the first Garrison player to emerge victorious, exiting Court 3 with a 15-9, 15-2 win over Lynch. Faulkner assured Garrison would take home the trophy win with a 15-2, 15-5 win over Poulin on Court 2. Powers then gave his team the sweep, defeating Moore, 15-1, 15-2.

The 92nd Military Police Battalion team of Jim ?Doc? Blair, Damien Bangle and Brian Moreno finished third in the tournament, defeating the 35th Engr. Bn. in the third-place round.

?We had a good solid team. We came in without a lot of practice or a lot of notice, but we were able to pull some wins out,? Blair said.

Blair expressed the players? appreciation for the quality of the tournament and the sports programs hosted by Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.

?This year?s tournament was great. (FMWR sports specialist) Danny (Howell) and the gang always put on a good show for us,? Blair said.

Bangle said the tournament represented not only a chance to represent his unit, but also an opportunity to meet other players.

?A lot of these guys, you might not have even bumped into before the tournament, but I?ve had a chance to make a couple of friends here ? the guy I just played, we?ll probably play each other again, just because we know it?s a challenge,? Bangle said.

Powers and Faulkner, who were also last year?s doubles racquetball champs, play on a regular basis at DFC. Powers said he hopes to bring more players to the courts.

?One thing I wanted to do this year more than any other is to try and be an ambassador for the sport and try to get more new players interested in racquetball,? Powers said. ?You don?t want to wait an entire year between Commander?s Cup tournaments to play. So, I hope we?ll see some new faces and be able to get new players some more experience.?

?This game is a blast. The rules are simple to learn, but it will take you years to master ? there?s always a new complexity or wrinkle to unravel,? he added.

Balloon test shows space tourism on horizon

7 hrs.

Not all space tourism is rocket science. A newly successful test of a balloon could allow paying human customers to enjoy stunning Earth views and the weightless astronaut experience by 2014.?

The test balloon carried a humanoid robot up to an altitude of almost 20 miles (32 kilometers) on Nov. 12 ? just a few miles shy of where skydiver Felix Baumgartner leaped from during his "space dive" in October. Startup Zero 2 Infinity wants to eventually offer hours of flight time for space tourists to do whatever they want in a near-space environment.?

"Some people will want to tweet," said Jose Mariano Lopez-Urdiales, founder and CEO of Zero 2 Infinity. "Some will want to put down a carpet and pray to mecca. Some people will want to eat their favorite buffalo wings while they're up there."

Video: Near-space balloon soars in flight test

The Spanish company already has customers on its wait list?who paid an early deposit of almost $13,000 (10,000 euros) as the first installment out of a total ticket price of $143,000 (110,000 euros). It has also attracted funding from the world's second-largest balloon manufacturer, Spain's third-largest bank, and several angel investors by proving its concept step-by-step and by relying on proven helium balloon technologies.?

Flight testing took place at an Air Force base near Virgen del Camino in Spain. But Lopez-Urdiales envisions future flights launching from many other locations in the country.?

The balloon experience?
A typical predawn flight would take several hours to reach maximum altitude, so that passengers could enjoy seeing the sun rise against the blackness of space and see the curvature of the planet Earth. Luckily, the balloon would not need to get anywhere near the 62-mile (100 km) altitude that marks the official edge of space for its riders to enjoy stellar views.?

"You would spend two hours at the floating altitude of 36 kilometers (22 miles)," Lopez-Urdiales told TechNewsDaily. "We could do it higher, but it would not make any difference, because you already see the same visual cues at 39 kilometers or even 100 kilometers."?

Getting back down would mean cutting the cord between the balloon and the enclosed passenger capsule. Passengers could experience about 40 to 60 seconds of weightlessness during free fall, before parachutes and a parafoil carried them safely down to Earth.?

The recent test flight gave Zero 2 Infinity its first successful test of a balloon capsule large enough to carry humans, but only if the two people spent the entire trip lying down. An earlier flight test scheduled in May was canceled after?wind gusts damaged the test balloon.?

Robot test pilots?
Future versions of the balloons, called "bloons" by the company, would have donut- or bagel-shaped capsules with plenty of standing room for two pilots and four passengers. But the test capsule proved just right for the humanoid robot named Nao ? made by Aldebaran Robotics ? that stands at knee-height compared to adult humans.?

The robot rode as a passive passenger, but could someday become an active pilot that tests the controls and life-support technologies meant for humans.?

"Little by little, we're teaching it how to pilot, but that's at a very early stage," Lopez-Urdiales explained. "The idea in the future is to have?humanoid robots?testing future complex aerospace vehicles."?

The company has almost finished building a bigger test balloon that could comfortably carry two people standing up. That larger balloon could make an attempt at breaking the manned high-altitude balloon record set in the 1960s ? a record that requires the pilot to take off and land in the balloon. (Space diver Baumgartner intentionally disqualified himself by leaping out of his high-flying balloon.)?

The inner journey?
But Zero 2 Infinity doesn't just want to make money. Lopez-Urdiales envisions his balloons carrying scientific experiments or scientists high into Earth's atmosphere. His inspiration for creating the startup company came from his dad, an astrophysicist who worked on an experiment that went with the Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn's moon Titan.?

"I was growing up around balloons, rockets and telescopes," Lopez-Urdiales said. "My dad tested a Huygens scientific instrument on a high-altitude balloon."?

The balloon space tourism's relatively more affordable price tag could also open the eyes of many more people through the "overview effect," Lopez-Urdiales said. Frank White, a communications director at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, coined the term to describe how astronauts gained a better appreciation of global and environmental issues after seeing the Earth surrounded by the darkness of space.?

"That's probably the biggest benefit?private spaceflight?will offer to civilians and members of the public," Lopez-Urdiales said. "The overview effect is personal experience, but then you share it. I think it goes a much longer way than bragging rights."?
